Wainlete - a haven of tranquillity

Newly available for 2008, a special cottage in the Royal Forest of Dean

Useful Information

How to get there

When you have paid for your holiday in full, you will be sent details of how to find your property and where to collect the keys on arrival. Please let us know an approximate time of arrival.

Arriving at the cottage

Except for short breaks, all bookings run from Saturday to Saturday, unless otherwise stated. The cottage will be available from 3pm on day of arrival, and we ask that you vacate by 10.30 a.m on your last day so that we have time to prepare it for our next guests. Outside of peak times, we are more flexible, and don’t want to rush you on your last day, so we may be able to accommodate a later check out time, so please ask!

Overseas visitors

If you are planning to travel from outside the UK , we must be provided with names, addresses and nationalities of all guests, and must have an address of where you are staying after leaving us. This is a legal requirement.

Parking

There is space for parking directly outside the cottage on the quiet lane, but we cannot guarantee availability of such parking.

Shops and local facilities

The nearest shop is at the petrol station on the road into Coleford. It is open till 10pm, and sells most groceries, has an off licence section and sells logs coal and kindling. Coleford has the usual town centre shops, i.e. supermarkets, a chemist, banks, post office, butchers, bakeries and greengrocers. Local produce is on sale here. Market day is a Thursday, and there is a signposted car boot sale on a Sunday morning.

There are details of doctors, dentists and vets in the cottage kitchen.

Clearwell has real ale pub ‘The Lamb’ 100yds from cottage, and two pubs that do good food, the Butchers, and the Wyndham Arms. The Tudor Farmhouse Hotel has an excellent restaurant, for that special occasion. All hostelries in the village welcome children.

Cleaning

All properties are cleaned between lets so all you have to do when you get there is unpack, and put the kettle on. There is no extra charge for cleaning, but we charge a security deposit of £50 which is returned in full unless extra, heavy cleaning is required after you leave, or you do not leave the property and its contents as you found them.

The kitchen

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you would expect at home. Including:

Sleeping Arrangements

Wainlete is a one bedroom property which ideally suits two with a super king size bed which can be split into two three foot singles if required. We can provide a cot and mattress on request.. There is a sofa bed settee in the lounge, which means two extra people can be accommodated. Bed linen and towels are provided for all booked to stay in the property. We also provide teatowels in the kitchen. Under no circumstances may more than four people plus a baby occupy a property.

Bed linen & towels

The beds will be made up as requested, and we provide a bath sheet, a hand towel and a facecloth for each guest. For hygiene and safety reasons we ask that you bring your own cot bedding if required.

Fuel, water, telephone

There is no additional charge for electricity, gas, heating, or water. We provide the first basket of logs free, and more are available to purchase from the petrol station on the road from Coleford to Clearwell, about 2 miles away. We will put the central heating on for your arrival In winter, and will have the fire laid ready for you There is no telephone at the property but there is a public phone box 200yards up the road at the Cross. Please note that mobile reception is patchy in the Forest, and Clearwell, being in a valley, is poor, but Vodafone is fine, and O2 works upstairs! We can leave a Vodafone Pay as you go phone in the cottage if required, and call charges will be deducted from your security deposit. Standard rates apply, maximum 20p per minute peak time.

Security Deposit

A £50 security deposit is required at time of booking the property. We ask for a cheque, which will be returned to you within 7 days of departure, if the property is found to be in the same condition as when you received it. Mobile phone use will be deducted if used. An additional £50 deposit is required for dogs.

Television and radio reception

The cottage has a television that receives terrestrial channels. There is no freeview available in the village, but there is a DVD player and a variety of DVDs available in the cottage. Radio reception is poor also, but again, there is a CD player and some CDs, but you are welcome to bring your own DVDs and CDs. The stereo has an i-Pod docking station.

Books

There is a wellstocked book shelf for those cosy evenings in front of the fire. If you haven’t finished a book by the time you leave, you are welcome to take it home, but ask that you leave another in its place, or leave a pound per book so I can keep the shelves full for others.

The cottage is in a rural location, so please be tolerant when it comes to sounds and scents - it’s all part of being in the country! A locally resident donkey may be heard at about 9am!

Information folder

In the cottage you will find details of local services, local pubs and eateries, and leaflets and books about the local area and attractions. We have provided details of walks both from the front door, and further afield.

Dogs

It can cost you a small fortune paying others to look after your dogs while you’re away. And, after all, why should you have to leave them behind when they’re part of the family?

We have dogs ourselves, and do not persecute the responsible dog owner, so do not charge extra for dogs. To allow for the occasional irresponsible dog owner, who does not clean up after their dogs, we ask for an extra £50 security deposit which is returned if there is no evidence of dog in the house or garden. You must not leave dogs unsupervised in the property or garden.

If you are bringing your dog on holiday, you must respect these few simple, common sense requests:
• Please keep your dogs off the furniture.
• Please exercise your dogs outside the garden.
• Please remove dog hairs from carpets before you leave.
• Please don’t leave your dogs unattended in the property or garden.
• Please do not allow dogs upstairs.

Whilst we clean and deodorise the cottage after dogs have stayed, customers with allergies should be aware that we cannot accept liability for any suffering which may occur as a result of animals having been present in the cottage.

Special requirements

We’ll do everything we can to help those in your party with special requirements, just let us have all relevant information at the time of booking.

Caring for your safety

We take the safety and wellbeing of all our guests very seriously and ensure that the cottage is well maintained for your comfort and safety.

Nevertheless, please remember that when you stay in unfamiliar surroundings, you must take special care of yourself and your family.

In particular:
• Note the position of the fire extinguisher (on wall at bottom of stairs) , and read the instructions on its use. Note where the torch is in case of power failure. ( In kitchen drawer)
• Make sure you use the fireguard, keep children and dogs under close supervision and ensure that the fire is safely out before you go to bed.
• If you are unsure of how to use any electrical appliances, and the instructions do not help, please call and ask us.
• Take special care when moving around the property at night.
• Ensure young children are not left unattended in the bedroom or bathroom, the windows are of the tilt and turn variety, so may be opened fully.
• The cottage is on a quiet country lane, but cars do use it. The front door opens directly onto the road, so take care with children.

Take special note of the following:

Gas appliances

• The boiler and cooker are maintained by CORGI registered engineers. There is a carbon monoxide alert installed in the cottage. If you have any doubts about the efficient operation of any gas appliance, alert us immediately.
• Gas cooker - as you would at home, ensure that gas cooker is turned off after use, and in particular, check this before you go to bed.

We want you to have a safe and happy holiday - a few minutes taking some simple precautions could make the difference between a holiday enjoyed and a holiday spoiled.

Dissatisfaction:

We work very hard to ensure that you will have an enjoyable holiday.  However, in the unlikely event that you are dissatisfied, then it is very important that you contact us straight away and we will do all we can to solve the problem.

Protecting the environment

The cottage is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and naturally we are interested in anything we can do to help preserve the environment.
