Introduction

Wainlete is an early eighteenth century almshouse cottage with irregular walls. It has now been modernised into a comfortably furnished one bedroomed cottage, retaining original character. There is a lounge/diner and kitchen downstairs, and stairs up to the bedroom and spacious bathroom. A rear patio garden has lovely views, and potted plants and flowers.

Pre-Arrival

We deal with enquiries by telephone and email, and can post if required. All our details are on our website, and all information can be sent in large print on request. Clearwell has several pubs and eateries, and the nearest shops are at Coleford, a market town two miles away. There is a frequent bus service from the bus stop 20 yards from the cottage. We recommend the use of a car to visit the stunning scenery and attractions locally. Coleford has a shop mobility scheme. The local takeaways deliver to the cottage.

Arrival & shopping

Parking is available on tarmac road outside property, and the cottage front door is onto the dropped kerb pavement. There is a street light opposite, and lights are left on in the property if arriving after dark.

Entrance

The front door is of uPVC type, with a lower sill height of 190mm, with ca reach of 160mm. Due to the shape of the cottage walls, the entrance width narrows to 640mm. Lights are left on after dark and contact information is prominently displayed. Skirting boards, architraves and doors are dark wood, while decor is light. Good contrast throughout.

General (Internal)

The property is carpeted throughout, apart from the kitchen which is quarry tiled, and the bathroom, which has non slip flooring. There is a long pile rug in the lounge, short pile mats in kitchen and bathroom. There is overhead and task lighting throughout. Assistance dogs are allowed throughout the property and the small rear paved and gravelled garden. There is opportunity for exercise in the local park, 50 yards down the tarmac lane outside.

Bathroom

The bathroom has a separate large shower, with a step up of 260mm and a door gap of 340mm. The 570mm high bath has grab rails. The bathroom is spacious, and the sink height is 830mm.

Shop

Coleford, the local shopping centre, has a free car park, with disabled spaces close to the shops.

Leisure Facilities

To our knowledge, the local venues and places listed below offer, at the very least, the minimum access requirements for wheelchair users, although may also have facilities and experience in catering for the less able visitor. We advise that you contact the companies directly to discuss your own specific requirements before setting out to visit them.

Garden

The level rear garden is approached via the uPVC door with a sill height of 190mm and a reach of 160mm. The concrete patio leads to a gravelled area, surrounded by pots and shrubs. There is an outside light.

Bedrooms

The superking size bed is 560mm high, with twin bedside pull switch wall lights.

The decor is cottage style, relaxed but contrasting. The pillows usually supplied are feather and down, but we can provide synthetic on request. Non Biological washing powder is used as standard.

Kitchen

The refurbished kitchen is of standard construction, with modern appliances. The belfast sink has regular twist turn taps, and there is a gas cooker and a simple to operate microwave. The worktops are pine, and there is overhead lighting and under cupboard lighting. The crockery top shelves are 177cm high. There is a fridge with a four star icebox. There is a washing machine, and a washing line outside.

Additional Information

A fire risk assessment has been undertaken and is available in the cottage. There is a fire extinguisher, torch, smoke alarm and carbon monoxide indicator in the cottage.

We have Pets Welcome award and all dog facilities are provided, and we allow service dogs throughout the property. We can stock up on your selected dog food if requested.

Smoking is allowed in the garden only. Being in the heart of the Forest of Dean, in a secluded valley, mobile reception is patchy. Vodafone is best, O2 and Orange are OK, but we can leave a Vodafone pay as you go mobile if you have any concerns.
